Wow, That Was Dismal

Yesterday was the last day of the "Race to the Bottom" challenge on Ravelry, which I helped moderate.  An 18-month challenge to potentially use up all one's stash (if possible) or an estimated 30,000.  Several people cleared out over 100,000 yards of yarn.  Me, I did an astounding 7,474.1 yards over a total of 18 months.  415 yards a month--that's just pathetic.  It did earn me the funniest badge ever,
The Dryer Lint Level participation badge! 

We'll be starting another 18-month challenge on May 1, and at least I'll have nowhere to go but up.

Okay, let's try a little math. 100,000 yards, if you had it in 200 yard skeins would be 500 skeins of yarn. Or, more than one skein per day. Now. I *might* be able to do that if I were retired, immobilized, *and* had been imprisoned in a cell with yarn and no books. But that's pretty hard core. And that doesn't count sewing progress. Plus you were employed for some of that time. Really 415 yards a month isn't so bad. You just have to keep at it.

Your stash was not built in a day... or even in 18 months... Just keep on keeping on and you'll get there! Although, I rather like the dryer lint sheep...

Love it! Just think, 400+ yards a month for 18 months is a lot of yarn to have been put into wearable garments!

Ostrich Plume Scarf

This scarf is actually very simple, but I'm trying to make the directions as thorough as possible.  It has a moss-stitch border of 6 rows on top and bottom and 4 stitches on each side, and uses the stitch pattern KNOWN as Ostrich Plume (hence the name).  There's a 3-stitch decrease using a slip 2, k1, pass slipped stitches over, which creates a nicer look than the traditional slip 1, k2tog, pass slipped stitch over technique, but feel free to use the more traditional decrease if you choose.  I used a shorter bottom and top edging to allow the wavy stitch pattern to pull the border into the wave effect, but you could certainly add a few extra rows of moss-stitch to the top and bottom if you would like. I Used The Glue Gun Without Burning Myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure I'll have a prouder accomplishment all year--or a more surprising one.  I think I have a few fingerprints left. Andy is gone for the weekend, so the kitties and I are having a crafting weekend.  With their help,  I finished the first project of the year. The colors are a bit more subdued in real life, but I don't know how to reduce the intensity of this cell phone's camera.  I also cut some more strips for other projects, and wound another Hank from Hell:  A couple years ago I bought some Feza Rio that was on clearance, and for a cashmere/merino blend, it's not at all soft, and until this yarn, I didn't know one could hank yarn badly, but there does seem to be a way to do it so unevenly that permanent kinks are put into the yarn, and if that weren't enough fun, rather than being normal human beings who tie the ends into the threads holding the hank in place, these deranged maniacs tied the two ends together and snipped off the end...

Prabook.org - Identity Theft R Us

So Sunday night I discovered a new "social media" website called prabook.org , and the WAY I discovered it was to find out that someone had created a profile for ME-- without my permission or knowledge --INCLUDING date and location of birth, who my parents are (including my mother's maiden name), and they even had a copy of an old resume and had uploaded all the details from that. I immediately contacted them to tell them to take it down, which they did, but they said that since anyone can add information, it could be restored, they would do nothing about it, and they assumed no responsibility for anything about their website. I know there's a lot of information and public records available online, but the resume they got hold of was from around 1997, so it would have been printed on actual paper and mailed to companies.  It was never emailed or uploaded to anything.  So the copy they have, if not obtained illegally, was certainly obtained in an unaut...
