Progress!

Meet Finished Project 33: and because 60-degree ruler projects tend to need enough triangles for a second project, project 34 could be done this weekend.  50 projects is still within striking distance!  Especially with a three-day weekend coming up...... The Fall Stashdash has been really motivating--or at least for some of us, so I've probably done more knitting in the last month than I have in the last year.  I've gone back to keeping knitting in the car.  For Boise, I have a long commute involving a lot of stoplights, and it's surprising how much knitting one can do at a stoplight.  Bonus points for totally freaking out other drivers--I think they think I knit while driving.  I have seen people doing all kinds of crazy stuff while driving (reading a book on the freeway, texting, applying makeup), but so far no handicrafts, though I honestly wouldn't say it doesn't happen.  But I've been in outside sales for a long time and have learned to...

Fall Back Into Love Stashdash - Year 2

From September 1 until November 30, it’s time to fall back in love with the things you already have. New yarn cannot compete with a long-term love. Complete as many of the following as you choose. As always, please feel free to involve other hobbies or crafts as well: Love at First Sight - pick a yarn in your stash that was truly an impulse buy--a yarn you just fell in love with. Find a pattern that will do it justice. Soul Mates - make a pair of socks, slippers, booties, or stockings from stash yarn--the deeper the better Glass Slipper - Match a pattern you already have with a yarn you already have and put them into a project bag to surprise yourself with in 2015 ‘Til Death Us Do Part - complete FIFTEEN rows on a WIP that is at least one year old, or your oldest if they’re all more recent “Are You Lonesome Tonight? - Complete TWENTY-FIVE rows on a second WIP “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling” - Complete SEVENTEEN rows on a third WIP “Killing Me Softly” - ...

Snowy Saturday

Image
Okay--more like snow/sleet/rain Saturday, but we did wake up to actual snow.  Needless to say, those last couple rows of garlic didn't get planted today.  Instead, there are two new lace ornaments, and more cross stitch!  For the " Fall Back Into Love" Stashdash , one of the categories was 6 rows on your most frustrating WIP.  I was originally thinking the mohair sweater, but every time I thought the word "frustrating" I thought of the 7+ year cross stitch progress.  There are actually far more than 6 new rows now, but I thought I might as well do the thing right and have done another 3 square inches today. Incidentally, I found this yesterday: I don't know if you can see this exactly, but in the first row of yellow/gold stitching there is something wonky with one of the stitches--making it more of a star than a cross.  I know I'm not doing this exactly right as a real purist would have ALL the stitches going the same direction with all the to...

They Just Save It All Up For Me

Image
It seems I spoke too soon. Theo was able to pee Monday morning, but by evening not so much.  He could get small amounts out, which is usually the sign the trouble is going away, but it's not been followed by getting worse.  So Tuesday morning, I packed up Theo in the cat carrier and bustled out the door first thing so I could have my little buddy at the vet's when they opened at 7:30......which would have been a much better plan if the VETS arrived at 7:30 as well.  They, however, roll in at 9:00, so to add to his stress issues, Theo spent 3 hours at the vet yesterday in addition to getting his pain shot.  I was finally able to pick him up and by the time we were back home and everything taken care of, my little buddy and I both needed a nap. Not to be outdone, I woke up to find Calisto had done unspeakable things in the guest bathtub--tracking it all over the floor and carpet for extra fun.  Theo's vet visits always freak her out a little (I'm not sure why...

As always, please feel free to involve other hobbies or crafts as well: Love at First Sight - pick a yarn in your stash that was truly an impulse buy--a yarn you just fell in love with. Find a pattern that will do it justice- DONE.  Actually, I picked out FOUR possible patterns for it--how's that for thorough? Soul Mates - make a pair of socks, slippers, booties, or stockings from stash yarn--the deeper the better Glass Slipper - Match a pattern you already have with a yarn you already have and put them into a project bag to surprise yourself with in 2014 - DONE  This is set aside for Christmas of 2014.  I might even remember it by then........ ‘Til Death Us Do Part - complete FIVE rows on a WIP that is at least one year old, or your oldest if t...

Having A Holiday

Image
Originally, I had planned to can tomato salsa yesterday, but then I thought, "Hey, it's a HOLIDAY weekend.  This is not what normal people do with holidays."  So I'm doing it today instead--still a holiday, but a Monday, which sort of evens things out.  Besides, I think I sat too much yesterday.  And that would be because... I was on a crafting marathon yesterday!  First I stitched another bag, this one for a friend of ours who just purchased a new ukelele and has a birthday this week, then three more white lace ornaments.  Now that I only have 2 months left before I can buy more thread, I'm less concerned about running out of white thread and more concerned about having white lace icicle ornaments.  I just love these!  And 3 ornaments in one day during canning season isn't a bad thing--114 left to go!!! Then I did some stabilizing on the thread bowl by adding a grid: and while I've heard several theories as to why my machines hate Coat...
