Cold Sheeping - How Many More Years?

This is my fourth year of Cold Sheeping (knitting only from stash and buying NO yarn at all, except to finish a project or on one of my year-end reward purchases when I allow them), and I have been making a lot of progress on The Stash, but there is still a crazy amount of yarn left.

So, it looks like I will be continuing to Cold Sheep for a few more years, but the idea of doing it indefinitely was getting to me, so I have decided that I will continue until my "All used up" tab in Ravelry shows 150 entries.  As it now has 33 entries, and most of my entries are not single skeins of yarn, this is going to be a long endeavor.  Years.  The other thing I have decided, in order to keep my sanity during this stash marathon, is that I will get to spend $100 on yarn each year.  That way I won't feel too deprived, and I've set a high enough number so that if a few purchases are things like sock yarn that will take up lots of entries in my stash, I'll still end up with a significantly tamed stash by the end of the project.  And there is just the slightest chance that by the end of this project, I might have finally learned moderation.............

Or not.

That's a good idea. You need to have a more immediate goal to work toward.

Personally, I find it most useful to set limits on the number of projects I can buy yarn for, or the yardage of yarn I can buy, rather than the amount of money I spend because that can become a dangerous search for sales, etc. just to get more yarn.

Good luck, Toni.

Yes, I think just knitting until it is all gone without exception will drive anyone nuts. I know it does for me.

Now I admit, I have barely got a stash, but I'm still trying not to buy any, but it still takes ages to knit anything at the mo. Having a full time teaching job doesn't help. So I am still happy with any valid reason that comes by to add to the stash, whether it is buying yarn for baby knits, or winning a blog contest. Or mr beest buying me yarn to knit him socks. He said. I'm still waiting :-)

Just discovered your blog when someone used the term 'cold sheeping' on my knitting group's Facebook page and I googled the term as I had no idea! lol How is your stash now it's nearly the end of 2012? I've used a lot of mine this year but I know in the depths of the wardrobes in 2 of the spare bedrooms there lurks a lot of yarn...:-/
