We've Solved The Nose Problem

He doesn't get one:
Truth be told, I almost never give snowmen noses anyway.  Of course, this decision was helped along by the fact that I didn't have any feltable orange yarn either (can you tell orange is my absolute LEAST favorite color in the world?)  I may eventually add a pompom to his hat, or the pattern calls for earmuffs made from a 2-inch pompom and a pipe cleaner (at least I have the pipe cleaner), but I thought he was pretty adorable as-is, so he's now on the shelf in our stairway. 

In the future, I'll be doing something different for snowmen scarves.  The scarf Frosty has is actually two bands--one going around his neck, and one draped over, then gathered to look like it was tied.  It would have been far, far, FAR easier to just have one band and actually tie the thing than to fuss around with making this one look tied, so his buddy with the red buttons will get a real scarf.  Maybe even a knitted one?

And we finally have a picture of the latest finished chemo cap,
which has a regular ribbed edge instead of the garter stitch one.  The garter stitch one with the flap is really cute, but I can make the cap just a bit longer this way, which might make it a bit more useful.

One dishcloth is also done,
which I am counting as 1/2 a project.  The second half is progressing,
thanks to Judi's suggestion of the Chinese Waves pattern.  This is a bit slower, but it's making a really thick cloth, which should be good for scrubbing.  Basically, the gist of the pattern is to cast on an odd number of rows, knit the odd rows, and alternate even rows between K2, [slip 1, knit 1] to end, K1; and K1, [slip 1, knit 1] to end. 

And lest you think I had enough to work on with all the existing projects and long-languishing WIPS, I have started the scarf for my niece,
which even with just 35 stitches is going to be really wide for a 5 year old, so it might find its way into the hands of an older niece, but I like how it's looking so I didn't want to restart it--having already done so TWICE.  We'll see how quickly I can get this moving, as I need SOMETHING for a gift in March. 

How many hours of sleep EXACTLY does the human body need.....?

The snowman is so cute, I think a knitted scarf would be perfect. I have to admit that orange and rust are my least favorite colors. I don't even like typing out the words orange and rust, that is how much I don't like them. Can't wait to see snowman number 2.

Margaret Thatcher famously (or rather infamously) got by on 4 hours of sleep per night. Come to think of it, I am sure that is in some way linked to her style of government. Not sure you want to share that...

Very cute indeed. I hate putting the noses on too, and a knitted scarf would be adorable. Nice chemo hats you are doing. I checked out the yarn you are using for them. Are you finding you need the second skein or just one per cap??? I am going to be ordering some of the yarn also.

Excellent solution to the snowman dilemma! As for sleep, I'll tell you what. I've been using a lot of extra this week trying to kick this annoying head cold, so if I use yours, you can stay up and knit instead. No need to thank me, I'm happy to help out.

I'm not sure I'll have a prouder accomplishment all year--or a more surprising one.  I think I have a few fingerprints left. Andy is gone for the weekend, so the kitties and I are having a crafting weekend.  With their help,  I finished the first project of the year. The colors are a bit more subdued in real life, but I don't know how to reduce the intensity of this cell phone's camera.  I also cut some more strips for other projects, and wound another Hank from Hell:  A couple years ago I bought some Feza Rio that was on clearance, and for a cashmere/merino blend, it's not at all soft, and until this yarn, I didn't know one could hank yarn badly, but there does seem to be a way to do it so unevenly that permanent kinks are put into the yarn, and if that weren't enough fun, rather than being normal human beings who tie the ends into the threads holding the hank in place, these deranged maniacs tied the two ends together and snipped off the end...

Whew, It's Been A While.

Wow - more than a year.   I am still crafting - lots of chemo caps knitted this year, but I'm also still learning to quilt.  This, is one of a set of table runners after I made a huge mistake on what was going to be a quilt.  Whoops.  That's twice I've done that.  I'd show you the other set, but blogger isn't letting me upload any older pictures.  I can show you this, which is from a kit and is one of my new favorites. This quilt, is my first attempt with a striped fabric, and is going to be shipped off to it's recipient today, who hopefully doesn't suffer from dizziness or vertigo.  What I learned from THIS project is that stripes aren't always printed straight, and if they are, I certainly don't always cut or sew straight.  Ahem... I am back to working from home.  I had been the marketing director for a local air conditioning company, but it was a family business, and what I discovered during the slow months is that it was a nightmare....

Ostrich Plume Scarf

This scarf is actually very simple, but I'm trying to make the directions as thorough as possible.  It has a moss-stitch border of 6 rows on top and bottom and 4 stitches on each side, and uses the stitch pattern KNOWN as Ostrich Plume (hence the name).  There's a 3-stitch decrease using a slip 2, k1, pass slipped stitches over, which creates a nicer look than the traditional slip 1, k2tog, pass slipped stitch over technique, but feel free to use the more traditional decrease if you choose.  I used a shorter bottom and top edging to allow the wavy stitch pattern to pull the border into the wave effect, but you could certainly add a few extra rows of moss-stitch to the top and bottom if you would like. I have written this to slip the first stitch of all but the very first row as I think it makes a nicer edge, but you may choose to simply knit them.  As a matter of personal preference, I never slip the first stitch of the first row--it doesn't work with some cast-o...
