That's Another 440 Yards!

And the soothing effect of the moss stitch pretty much evaporated on the second half of the scarf because I was so obsessed with excited about finishing it. That puts me over 5000 yards for the year. Whoo hoo!!!!

And I would like you to meet my new best friend:Ever since Theo's water torture/therapy, he's had a lot of problems with hairballs--which probably makes sense given how much he licked himself during the whole ordeal. I tried all sorts of "natural" remedies--like adding pureed pumpkin to his food, which being a cat he wouldn't eat. Then I found this stuff:It's supposed to be tuna-flavored, and they suggest putting a one-inch ribbon of this stuff on your finger & having your cat lick it off--a suggestion obviously written by a dog owner. The second suggestion is to smear the gunk onto the cat's front paw & have the cat lick it off. What they leave out is that EVEN THOUGH this stuff is sticky & will be really hard to get off your finger, putting it on a cat's front paw will cause the cat to flip and buck, which will cause this sticky goo to launch into the air and adhere itself to the nearest hard-to-clean surface. Smearing it into the cat's fur will only anger the cat and doesn't seem to affect the ability to flick the goo onto walls. Repeating this ordeal daily will clear up the hairballs, but makes for one angry kitty.

Of course, the best option is to eliminate the hairballs instead of treating them, but Theo hates to be brushed. The ladies doing physical therapy with him were able to brush him & said he even purred when they did it, but they were dunking him in a water tank twice a day, so he would probably have purred at ANYTHING they did that didn't involve the water tank. I was almost desperate enough to start dunking him in a tank twice a day, and then I found this lovely mitt. Provided he doesn't actually see the mitt, he loves to be rubbed with it. As soon as he sees it, however, he attacks it. It's only been a couple days so I don't know if this is actually going to solve the problem, but at least it's been a nice break from the bucking, goo-flinging kitty show....

If the goo were colored, you could put him in a room with blank canvases and have him create kitty art, a la Pollock! Think of how much money you two could make! Think of the fame! Think of the YouTube videos! Think of the cat-food endorsements!

Huh. My cats LOVE that hairball goo stuff. I put a dab of it on the rim of their food bowl and they eat it up...
But then, my cats like being brushed as well.
maybe my catsare just odd...?

Oh, god. The last time my husband tried the 'smear hairball goo on the cat's paw' trick, she was so furious she peed on the bed. My side. I've had no success telling her that it wasn't my idea, and she really should have peed on his side. Fortunately, she's okay with brushing (and the Furminator rocks- it really works well).

And I had to mention, that if you want to use yarn quickly? Crochet is your go-to craft. On my recent blanket project I went through about 8 of those 250 yard skeins in under 2 weeks. And I didn't even have all that much time to work on it.

My dog will chase the cats and clean them when we put that goop on them cause she loves it. Unfortunatly, that does not resolve the cat's hairball issue. I have not found a good way to give it to them.

I'm not sure I'll have a prouder accomplishment all year--or a more surprising one.  I think I have a few fingerprints left. Andy is gone for the weekend, so the kitties and I are having a crafting weekend.  With their help,  I finished the first project of the year. The colors are a bit more subdued in real life, but I don't know how to reduce the intensity of this cell phone's camera.  I also cut some more strips for other projects, and wound another Hank from Hell:  A couple years ago I bought some Feza Rio that was on clearance, and for a cashmere/merino blend, it's not at all soft, and until this yarn, I didn't know one could hank yarn badly, but there does seem to be a way to do it so unevenly that permanent kinks are put into the yarn, and if that weren't enough fun, rather than being normal human beings who tie the ends into the threads holding the hank in place, these deranged maniacs tied the two ends together and snipped off the end...

Whew, It's Been A While.

Wow - more than a year.   I am still crafting - lots of chemo caps knitted this year, but I'm also still learning to quilt.  This, is one of a set of table runners after I made a huge mistake on what was going to be a quilt.  Whoops.  That's twice I've done that.  I'd show you the other set, but blogger isn't letting me upload any older pictures.  I can show you this, which is from a kit and is one of my new favorites. This quilt, is my first attempt with a striped fabric, and is going to be shipped off to it's recipient today, who hopefully doesn't suffer from dizziness or vertigo.  What I learned from THIS project is that stripes aren't always printed straight, and if they are, I certainly don't always cut or sew straight.  Ahem... I am back to working from home.  I had been the marketing director for a local air conditioning company, but it was a family business, and what I discovered during the slow months is that it was a nightmare....

Ostrich Plume Scarf

This scarf is actually very simple, but I'm trying to make the directions as thorough as possible.  It has a moss-stitch border of 6 rows on top and bottom and 4 stitches on each side, and uses the stitch pattern KNOWN as Ostrich Plume (hence the name).  There's a 3-stitch decrease using a slip 2, k1, pass slipped stitches over, which creates a nicer look than the traditional slip 1, k2tog, pass slipped stitch over technique, but feel free to use the more traditional decrease if you choose.  I used a shorter bottom and top edging to allow the wavy stitch pattern to pull the border into the wave effect, but you could certainly add a few extra rows of moss-stitch to the top and bottom if you would like. I have written this to slip the first stitch of all but the very first row as I think it makes a nicer edge, but you may choose to simply knit them.  As a matter of personal preference, I never slip the first stitch of the first row--it doesn't work with some cast-o...
