It Never Gets Any Better

Today I blocked my MS3.I like the beads, like the draping effect of the yarn (Skacel Merino lace),am thrilled that it's finished, and still dislike the shawl.

I have knit much larger lace projects, but I have never knit anything that felt larger. It proves something that I should have realized long ago--don't knit patterns you don't like. Seems sort of self-obvious, but under the influence of yarn fumes, I forget this one pretty regularly. Still, I think I will have learned my lesson with asymmetrical shawls at least. I am not an "artistic interpretation" sort of lace knitter. I'm more of a "those-two-sides- of-the-shawl-darn-well-better-match" sort of lace knitter. Probably good to know for future reference, and in case I am tempted by "mystery knitting" projects in the future...

This weekend I started the beaded band for Fleur,
which now has me terribly excited about the whole project, and the right front was brought through the fussy stage and is making wonderful progress:I am SUCH a sucker for beads!

The Kimono shawl got a little action over the weekend
until I got sidetracked by the beads, but at least if it gets put back in the WIP bin for now, at least it's farther along than it was. I have warned the existing WIPs of the serious case of frogging that struck the bin earlier this year, and thus far they are all behaving themselves and have not developed any irreversible errors or large snags. When one has over 20 WIPs, one has to be careful to keep them in check lest they gang up on the unsuspecting knitter and stage a wool rebellion!

MS3 is beautiful... and a little odd. I have never seen an asymetrical shawl before. Was there a KAL? 'Cause I would have assumed there was something seriously wrong with the instructions.

The shawl looks magnificent, but I do agree with both yourself and Abby - I feel rather uncomfortable with the design. How odd to have an asymmetrical shawl. Was there a health warning with the KAL instructions? (Something along the lines of - Note, this design is not symmetrical.)
Ah well, you may not like the shawl, but the knitting looks superb.

I'll join the crowd of symmetry-lovers - that shawl would have driven me bonkers. But you did a great job on it- congratulations on finishing!

One question though? Is knitting ADD contagious?

My first thought on seeing the MS3 shawl done was, WOW, but it is soo long..... Not my cup of tea either. Beautiful knitting, though, nonetheless.

I also think it is very liberating to frog something that you know is not working out right. However, I'm not sure I see anything more in your WIPs that needs frogging... You took care of that earlier in the year. You would have to convince me... :) he he he

Brava, brava!! MS3 really does look lovely, whether it's your cup of tea or not. Mine languishes halfway for the same reasons. I bet it looks wonderful on you, though!

The mystery shawl, though asymmetrical , does actually look quite lovely when wrapped with the wing side coming back around in front and the other side hanging down. In other words, wrap it asymmetrically and it will look intentional.
