Knit ALL the Things!

Image
In spite of yesterday hitting a sweltering 92 degrees, fall is in the air and eventually the weather will catch on, so it's knitting season and I suddenly have a mad desire to Seriously, I have the biggest case of starteritis I've had in a long time.  How does this happen?  I spent an hour--an HOUR--of prime crafting time last night searching Ravelry for patterns.  Do I not have a queue?  Of course I do.  But Me Made Monday has almost ruined knitting for me.  Now, not only do I have to want to knit the item, I need to want to wear it.  When did THAT happen?  I have thousands of yards of yarn stashed, and NOW I'm going to start being sensible?  That's going to RUIN crafting for me!

50!

Having FINALLY finished the socks I've been working on, and the two floral jackets, I've made my goal of 50 finished projects for the year!  Of course, I'm still quite a way from reaching any other goal--like 100-yards of fabric for the year--and Me Made Mondays took a bit of a hit recently, but I am back on track with this for yesterday.  It's a crafting jacket I made years ago, and aside from the pockets being so far down the jacket that I can't reach all the way into them, this has been a pretty successful project.  I wear it a lot, which doesn't always happen with projects. The big news is.....I quit my job and last Tuesday was my last day.  Ideally, I would have lined up another one before resigning, but my hours were so long, and with the frequency of the last-minute meetings scheduled in my personal time in the mornings, I wasn't able to do interviews.  This was the first weekend I'd had off in months, and since it happened to be our TE...

Back To Me Made Monday

Image
So, you might have noticed that I disappeared entirely for a while.  Something I didn't know about the new job was what is nicely called "band season," which in reality meant really long, exhausting hours (and without extra pay because I'm salaried, not hourly), so not only has there been little crafting, there's been little of anything except work and sleep.  The extended hours ended Friday, so I've had enough breathing room to at least turn on my computer.  And to remember that it's Me Made Monday, and it's cool enough for this today: To be fair, this fabric is so lightweight that this probably has no warmth at all, but I do love how it looks.  And how is everyone else doing?

Oops.

And here it is, almost the end of August.  Whoops. But there has been some crafting!  On the successful crafting front, this: might be one of the few Pinterest projects which actually works.  You know how clothes slide off those plastic hangers?  Well, little drops of hot glue on them actually stops things from sliding off, and they don't attract lint like the velvet ones.  Don't worry, Pinterest is still Pinterest.  This: is my attempt at an ombre-shading dyed rope bowl.  I'm going to guess type of dye used is the key element that was left out of the instructions.  So I have a solid pink bowl. I also got the Begonia shawl finished for my friend's birthday,  and only 6-weeks late.  Look at MY speed.  And since I was blocking, I blocked mine as well--only 4 months after finishing the knitting.  I'd blame it on work (which is taking up an absurd amount of time), but I think we all know my general ability to proc...

Let's Just Forget the Last Week, Shall We?

Image
I had the house to myself for the weekend, though working on Saturdays does put a big damper on weekends.  I got up early Sunday, repotted a plant, and was just doing dishes while finishing my coffee before going for a walk when I broke a stupid wine glass while washing it and the stem went RIGHT into my hand. This is probably a great time to mention that 1) I faint at the sight of blood, and 2) I was still in my pajamas, and 3) my car is a stick shift.  So, I had to call the ambulance, though at least this time I was downstairs. The thing I've noticed about doctors is that they have no idea how gross their profession can be,  Necessary?  Yes.  Fascinating?  I'm sure.  But if your patient has already told you that she gets very queasy around blood and needs to not see you putting in stitches, for the love of God, do NOT give her a play-by-play of what you are doing.  And do NOT then be shocked when the patient's heart rate has dropped from 60 ...

Me Made Friday

Image
Yesterday was hot, so it was a perfect day for a cotton sundress: which I swear I took a picture of yesterday but it seems it was with an imaginary camera.  Anyway, I finished this blue dress in 2013 and wore it yesterday while out running errands.  It's a bit casual for work, but it is fabulous for 100+ temperatures.  So, I've made it another week with Me Made Days.  Do you think it's possible to make a shirt in a single day? I could have tried cutting out a cotton shirt or something yesterday, but instead the sewing room needed some tidying--especially after I rampaged through it looking for another ball of yarn to finish the THREE remaining rows on the current Begonia Swirl shawl.  I found the yarn, but then when I swear I was putting away the leftover rope from making the last bowl, I found myself working on this: To say it's going faster with just the rope would be an understatement.  This is cotton rope, and I've wanted to try an ombre dyi...

Not-So-Much Me-Made-Monday

Image
Yesterday I had a physical therapy appointment before work, which really limits the clothing options in general because skirts are completely out.  So maybe I can get through July and August with Me Made One-Random-Day-Of-The-Week.  Or maybe I could just figure out how this: could count as a fashion accessory.  Hat?  Purse?  Hm, what if I count purses for Me Made Monday?  You know, since I've finished exactly ONE.  But it could get me through this week....... We had a busy weekend.  Andy's birthday was on Saturday, so we celebrated on Sunday since one of us now works on Saturday.  But I did get in a little sewing time, and let me just tell you that I'm glad I learned the rope bowl technique with colored rope FIRST before adding fabric strips.  It's not actually difficult, but figuring out how to judge angles like this are a bit easier if that is the only thing one has to worry about.  The bowl was made from scraps from o...
