Catching Up

Whew!  Just a crazy, crazy, crazy few weeks.  Aside from getting ready for the trip to Colorado, Andy's parents were stopping by here on their way home from Colorado, so there was some pretty massive cleaning.  And with temperatures well over 100, there was a lot of mulching and watering and weeding to keep the garden alive.  It turns out there had been a mix-up with dates, so they arrived a day earlier than we expected.  It worked out fine, but instead of having everything all ready, my mother-in-law pitched in and swept the floor for me while Andy put the sheets on the guest bed.  On her first visit, Theo put a dead mouse in her shoe, so we're just going to be the weird house.  :)  Luckily, everyone is pretty relaxed so it turned out fine.  And no mice were involved in this visit in any way, so that's probably a step up.  I had planned to spend this week sewing as I'm going to make a shirt for Andy for his birthday this year and it's...

It's 7:00 PM and 102 Degrees...

...which is why there are no pictures involving anything remotely resembling wool.  Bleah......... This weekend we went to a family event in Colorado, so we missed the 105-degree blast on Saturday.  It was fun--and much cooler there--though my brilliant idea to have physical therapy on Thursday and fly out on Friday was a spectacular flop.  I hurt so much while flying that I actually resorted to mixing 1/4 of a valium with a glass of wine.  The prescription actually said 1-2 pills were okay, but I can't handle that.  1/2 a tablet usually knocks me out, so while I would never, ever, EVER combine them normally, it was basically like getting a bit drunk--just in a rather relaxed way.  And it worked, though I didn't even TRY to knit on the plane.  I can't even imagine how THAT would have gone. Saturday we all went to the Colorado Renaissance Festival, which was a hoot. Almost half the attendees were in costume, and some were simply astounding.  I...

Prabook Update

So, since posting the warning about the site Prabook, my blog has been getting regularly hit by bots from Russia, China, and other countries hot for identity theft.  Coincidence?  I don't think there's anything they can really steal or do, and we're pretty careful about identity theft and that sort of thing, but if there was ANY doubt that Prabook wasn't a totally malicious site, I certainly don't have any now.  So, if you find yourself being given an unauthorized profile, the email to contact them is contact@prabook.org .  Because they won't let you block your profile even if you request it be taken down, I would also report them to your state's consumer protection division in the Attorney General's office, and keep a copy of your request to have your profile taken down.

Me Made Mondays?

While catching up on blogs last night, I ran across a post on the Sew News site called " Me Made Monday ."  I've heard of "Me Made May," and have even thought about trying it, but the timing is just too difficult.  The idea is that every day in May, or on every Monday, one would wear something he or she made .  As a knitter, having the challenge span the entire year would make it much, much easier.  Conversely, I have sewn more summer clothes than winter, so a challenge spanning all seasons would make a lot of sense.  Have I found my crazy challenge for 2016??????????????

Toni vs. the Eyelets

Image
You know, I feel less guilty about swearing when the project isn't a gift, which is kind of a good thing.  You know those little rings one puts laces through?  Well, I have a newly discovered respect for their existence now.  Especially the ones without little bits of the back broken off.  I marvel at those.  However, after a couple practices on extra fabric, redoing two of the eyelets, and completely wearing out my hand, 10 of the little monsters are now in the vest and ready for the sueded leather cording I found which I thought would look somewhat authentic but which sheds all over everything, especially a white dress underneath.  And now that it is finished in time.....it's really HOT to wear.  It's lined AND interfaced, so I might opt to not wear it after all.  I had a backup scarf plan lined up in case the eyelets didn't work out, and that would be much, much cooler.  We'll see.  When it's over 90 degrees, I'm all about ...
