Apparently, One Should Never Joke About Colds...

....because it guarantees that you'll get one.  Last Sunday was our 12th wedding anniversary, and I rounded out the evening by coming down with a sore throat and cold.  Clearly, celebrating milestones with wild abandon is a BIG part of our marriage.....:)

We had declared Saturday a DAY OFF, so I spent the day with the quilt
and went on a towel marathon:
My embroidery machine is having issues again, but I'm able to coax it through designs with only a few color changes.  I'm seriously thinking about getting a new machine in December as I'm now avoiding projects because of the machine's problems, but getting a few things made helps.  The fur-brigade was thrilled:
They're pretty certain the sewing room is just for them.  Isn't everything?

Being sick did give me extra knitting time,
so the birthday trip scarf is now done. Yay!  And before jumping straight to the new sweater, I spent some more time with the Kauni cardigan, then finished the scarf I've been keeping in the car--bringing me to FOUR knitting projects for the year.  Whew!  Watch my speed.....

I was seriously tempted to cast on the new sweater, but I ran across this over the weekend,
and as I love this yarn, it would count as another WIP for the fall stashdash, AND it's on size 11 needles, I've been working on it.  I love fast projects!!!!!!!  The large needles do wear out my hands eventually, so I did end up checking gauge and casting on the new yarn
which is completely fabulous.  It's so soft--totally worth waiting three years for.

This weekend there's been more knitting than sewing as I've needed to rest still, and we're having some wonderful fall weather finally,
so today was a walk, gardening, and rest.  And lots and lots of kitty time--isn't there always?

I Have Finished Knitting Something!!!!!

Can you believe it took over a year to make a single pair of socks?
The stripes aren't even close to matching, but when it takes the span of a year, it's probably a miracle that they are even a bit similar.

So, to update the fall stashdash:

Love at First Sight - pick a yarn in your stash that was truly an impulse buy--a yarn you just fell in love with. Find a pattern that will do it justice.  I'm going to count the travel scarf for this--I think one could argue that pretty much ALL of my lace yarn was purchased on impulse, so

Soul Mates - make a pair of socks, slippers, booties, or stockings from stash yarn--the deeper the better   Done!

Glass Slipper - Match a pattern you already have with a yarn you already have and put them into a project bag to surprise yourself with in 2019

’Til Death Us Do Part - complete TEN rows on a WIP that is at least one year old, or your oldest if they’re all more recent DONE - socks

“Are You Lonesome Tonight? - Complete TWENTY rows on a second WIP

“You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling” - Complete SEVEN rows on a third WIP

“Killing Me Softly” - complete SIX rows on your most frustrating WIP or project
Kauni cardigan

“Hit the Road, Jack” (or “Hit the Toad, if you prefer) - review your WIPs and frog any that you don’t love  Ripping back the Kauni cardigan far enough to fix it

“We’ve Only Just Begun” - update or embellish something you already have: crochet cuffs on a pair of jeans? Ribbon embroidery? A new hat or scarf to match an old coat? Create a look you love.

Do You Believe in Magic?” - finish ONE WIP (or project if you have no WIPs)  SOCKS

“Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye” - make one gift

“At Last” - finish a SECOND WIP (or project if you have no WIPs)

“Dreams Can Come True - finish a THIRD WIP (or project if you have no WIPs)

“We Belong Together” - work 40 rows on any project made with stash yarn long-languishing sock

“Embraceable You” - sort through ONE yarn bin, drawer, or bag to remember what great yarn you already have
Kind of all I do in the sewing room right now, to be honest.

Optional Bonus Categories:
“Wouldn’t it Be Nice?” - wrap up a second project bag for yourself and wrap it up for your 2019 birthday

“Let’s Stay Together” - work an additional 30 rows on any project Sock

“My Funny Valentine” - work an additional 25 rows on your favorite WIP or project
Done - socks

“My Ideal” - repeat any of the challenges THREE times, one for each month of the challenge

“Crazy” - repeat ALL of the “row count” challenges THREE times

Now I'm torn--I have fabulous new yarn to play with, but I also have other categories that could be checked off for the stashdown if I work on existing WIPs.  Either way, I get a sweater, so that's a big win/win, but is it wrong to be hoping that there's a serious cold that strikes my workplace this fall so I can spend a few days just knitting...........?

Portland!

Last week we took a quick trip to Portland to celebrate my birthday.  We've traveled a lot for Andy's birthdays but never mine, so it made for a nice change.  Work has been busy for both of us so it had to be only a few days, but even that made a nice change.

As a crafter, you know you've picked the right city when you find this in the airport:
It's made from rolls and folds of felt.  There were several, but this was my favorite.  Not only do I find it lovely and clever, I admire anyone who can handle a glue gun without permanently removing his fingerprints.  The artist's name is Xander Griffith.  Clever, isn't it?

Knowing we were going to Portland, a good friend sent me a gift card for a Portland yarn shop, so after a 3-year streak,
I have new yarn.  I'm showing great restraint though and working on
my existing second sock to finish it before casting on. There's also this now,
which was my travel knitting project.  I'm going to count it as my "Love at First Sight."  Technically, almost all my yarn could be considered "impulse buys," but I think lace yarns should get special credit as they are my weakness.  I'm actually proud that I bought yarn for a sweater rather than lace or sock yarn--those would have been tempting as "souvenir yarn," but I already have SOOOOOOO much.

Must knit faster......................
